The executive director of the Pennsylvania Council of Churches since August 1999, Gary L. Harke  received his BA in philosophy (magna cum laude) from St. Olaf College and an MDiv from Yale University Divinity School. He serves on the Moravian-Episcopal Dialogue, chairs the Moravian Church–Northern Province’s Ordination Review Committee, and has recently joined the Faith and Order Commission of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the U.S.A.

Harke is a former staff associate to the Moravian Church–Northern Province. In this capacity he staffed the denomination’s governing board, coordinated planning activities, carried responsibility for social justice work, and coordinated relationships with the National Council of Churches. Prior to his work for the Moravian Church–Northern Province, he worked for the Board of World Mission of the Moravian Church as a fraternal worker in Nicaragua (working in parish ministry and theological education) and as a parish pastor in Easton, Pennsylvania.

A presenter at numerous conferences, he co-presented (with his wife, Bonnee Lauridsen Voss) “Two Ways to Discuss Controversial Issues in Light of Religious Beliefs” at the 1996 Annual Meeting of the Association of Professors and Researchers in Religious Education. They also team-taught courses on the Western Humanities, the European Holocaust, the global village and world hunger for Lakeland College’s Madison (WI) Center, where he also taught philosophical ethics.

He and his wife reside in the City of Harrisburg, where they attend the Cathedral Church of St. Stephen.
