Pennsylvania
Council
of
Churches
Through
the public advocacy ministry of the Pennsylvania Council of Churches we
·
empower
people of faith, through education and skill-building, to make a
difference for the common good in the public square;
·
advocate on
behalf of the Council's member church bodies before Pennsylvania's
legislative and administrative branches of government.
The
Public Advocacy Action Team (PAAT), in coordination with the Director of
Public Advocacy, works to encourage the Pennsylvania Legislature to uphold
the high standards for moral and ethical governance spelled out in the PA
Council of Churches statement of Legislative
Principles.
PAAT
is currently in the process of revising the Legislative Principles
and developing legislative priorities for the 2005-2006 legislative
session. Watch for the revised Principles and
priorities to be published after review and adoption by the Governing
Board in October 2005.
The
Public Advocacy program has been busy with some other changes and
additions as well. The Ecu-Advocate
has now taken the place of Impact. It will be
published on an as-needed basis to provide information and updates on
public advocacy activities, as well as calls to action. Specific
calls to action will be provided via Action
Alerts as the need arises. Both will be produced with
greater frequency at times of significant legislative activity.
Also
available is an Advocacy/Events
Calendar with upcoming events and activities that may be of
interest to persons interested in specific issues and advocacy efforts.
If you are interested in having an event posted please send your request
to the s.strauss@pachurches.org.
Please
bear with us as we make changes to current pages. Some of the issue
pages are currently out of date, and we are in the process of updating
these pages. We are developing position statements for issues of
interest to the Council that will eventually be posted and available from
this page. Stay tuned for further information...
