The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (observed in most parts of North America January 18-15 annually) was initiated in 1908 by the Rev. Paul Wattson, co-founder of the Society of the Atonement. While its observance has evolved over the year, it remains an important expression of ecumenical activity at the local level. The theme and text for each year's observance of the Week of Prayer are chosen and prepared by representatives of the World Council of Churches and representatives of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. The international texts are developed, adapted and published for use in the USA by the Graymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Institute.  Visit Graymoor or the World Council of Churches for more information and resources.

Access a pastoral letter (as a PDF file) on the observance of the 2006 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, written by members of the Constituency Services Action Team and signed by bishops and executives of the member bodies of the Pennsylvania Council of Churches.  We encourage distribution of the letter and use of the resources as noted.
