The Pennsylvania Council of Churches received two small grants to further its work on public policy initiatives.

In early December 2005, the Wallace Global Fund invited the Council to apply for funds to enhance its effort to bring about comprehensive and effective lobbying reform that gives all Pennsylvanians access to governmental processes. The grant of $5,000 funded the preparation and distribution of educational resources to congregations, local ecumenical agencies, and grass-roots activists. Kathleen Daugherty, former director of Lutheran Advocacy Ministries in Pennsylvania, was staff for this initiative of the grant (February through June 2006).

The Council was one of two sites for a pilot project testing strategies for increasing awareness of the global nuclear terrorism threat. This effort, in partnership with the Interreligious Network to Eliminate Nuclear Weapons, the Nuclear Threat Initiative, and Interchurch Ministries of Nebraska,  focused on screening Last Best Chance, a docudrama that shows the threat posed by vulnerable nuclear weapons and materials around the world and underscores what the stakes are. The film stars Fred Thompson and features an epilogue discussion between former Senator Sam Nunn and Senator Richard Luger, moderated by Tom Brokaw. The Council is continuing efforts that were started under these two grants. For more information, go to
